RLD to hold protest outside parliament

Muzaffarnagar, November 10: Rashtriya Lok Dal today said that it will stage a demonstration outside parliament on November 19, asking the state and Central government to fix adequate price for sugarcane in Uttar Pradesh.

“We will hold a protest in front of parliament on November 19 in protest against the decision of the state as well as Central government on fixing minimum support price for sugarcane, RLD General Secretary Anuradha Choudhry said here.

The Centre has announced Rs 129.82 for a quintal of sugarcane while the state government has fixed the rate at Rs 170 as minimum support price. Both the prices are not adequate as the sugarcane growers in the state have demanded at least Rs 280 for a quintal of their produce, he said.

Yesterday, farmers in western UP staged a road and rail blockade in support of their demand.
