RJD joins shutdown call in protest against police firing

Ranchi, April 06: The RJD will join the bandh called by opposition parties tomorrow to protest the police firing at Islam Nagar here that left one person dead and injured over a dozen during an anti-encroachment drive.

“Our party has decided to support the opposition parties in their bandh in protest against yesterday’s police firing,” RJD state unit president Girinath Singh told reporters in Garhwa.

The Congress will observe Ranchi bandh while its pre-poll ally Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantric) has called a 12-hour Jharkhand shutdown tomorrow while the Left parties will observe a ‘protest day’ tomorrow.

The police had yesterday opened fire to disperse protestors during anti-encroachment drive at Islam Nagar following an order of the Jharkhand High Court. Union minister Subodh Kant Sahay had also been arrested for staging a sit-in at the spot.
