Hyderabad: A 28-year-old Army Major’s wife a native of Ghaziabad was found dead at her house in Bollarum a week ago. Police believe that it was a case of suicide but her family members from Ghaziabad alleged that it was a case of murder.
Sandhya Singh, who worked as a radio jockey with Radio Charminar had been living with her husband Vishal Vaibhav, an Army Major posted with 54th Infantry in Secunderabad. The couple got married in September 2015 in UP and shifted to Hyderabad six months ago.
According to Sandhya’s sister Ramya Singh who lodged a complaint alleging that as it was a love marriage Vishal had been harassing Sandhya by demanding a huge dowry.
Assistant commissioner of police (Begumpet) S Ranga Rao, who is investigating the case, said that Sandhya died under suspicious circumstances. “During the preliminary probe, it was found that she had committed suicide. Following a complaint lodged by Sandhya’s parents, we registered a case of dowry death under Section 304B and the investigation is on,” Ranga Rao said. The police are likely to question Samya’s husband Vishal in connection with the case.
When the police went to question Vishal he fled from his house and got admitted to the Army Hospital, complaining chest pain. Police said they are not allowed on Army premises without permission.
During the investigation, Sandhya’s colleagues said that she hosted a Sufi Night at Ashiana in Banjara Hills on Sunday and was in a cheerful mood that day. She came to the office on Monday but left early.
Abdul Samad, a member of the Radio Charminar staff said that. “She had told a female colleague that she was fed up with her life,” adding. “She did not come to office on Tuesday. We tried to contact her, but her phone was off. We did not know what happened until her sister filed a complaint this week.”
