Rivers swell again in UP as rains pour

Lucknow, September 03: After receding for two days, major rivers have started swelling again in some districts of Uttar Pradesh after heavy rainfall lashed several parts of the state.

According to a report from Central Water Commission, Ramganga river was rising in Kalagarh in Bijnore district and Bareilly, whereas Yamuna was swelling in Auraiya.

Water level in Betwa river rose in Mohana in Jalaun, as Gomti river swelled in Jaunpur and Ghaghra at Katarniya Ghat in Bahraich, the report said.

The Met department said, 62.2 mm rainfall was recorded in Palliakalan (Kheri), 48 mm in Ayodhya, 18 mm in Ballia, 49.6 mm in Lucknow and 20.8 mm in Sitapur.

Relief Commissioner SN Shukla said, so far, over 1.22 lakh people from over 1,500 flood-hit villages were shifted to safe places.
