Mumbai, January 23: He never dreamt of being a journalist, but Cinergy Pictures’ RANN, directed by maverick filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma, gave actor Ritesh Deshmukh the chance.

Though the film has given Ritesh only the opportunity to be a desk journo, Ritesh took his role a step further and moved it on to real life where he investigated pilferage of water and wastage of water in Mumbai and touched upon video piracy that is a bane to Bollywood. On his mission he found out that slum dwellers make holes in pipelines to get water and the hole lets water leak all day long.
“We can make the difference if we act responsibly,” says Ritesh. “Each of us can and should make a beginning from within.”
