Rising trend of suicide among Muslim youth

Suicide is strictly forbidden in Islam and the number of suicide cases among Muslims in the state in general and Hyderabad in particular were next to zero. But sadly during the recent past it seems that the evil of suicide is also penetrating among Muslims.

In a recent incident a gentleman Shafiullah Baig of Misri Gunj hanged himself to death at his residence. Surprisingly two brothers Mohammed Mustafa Husain (37) and Mohammed Riyaz Husain (35) who happened to be Shafiullah’s neighbours were brutally killed by a 35 member gang near Dargah Hazrat Abdullah Shah Saheb at RC Puram a week ago. The two brothers were friends of Shafiullah Baig. Death of 3 persons of the same locality within a week’s span, has created a wave of sorrow among the residents of the locality.

According to neighbours Shafiullah Baig along with Mohammed Mustafa Husain and Mohammed Riyaz Husain sons of Ali Pahelwan were going to RC Puram to take possession of 1236 acre land at RC Puram. Coincidentally, on the way, Shafiullah Baig got down at a petrol pump. Later a 35 member team killed the two brothers. Since the incident occurred, Shafiullah Baig remained taciturn. According to the locals on the night before the fateful day Shafiullah Baig had slept in the house of Ali Pahelwan, he came to his house in the morning, closed the door of the drawing room of his house and hanged himself to the fan with the help of a dupatta and committed suicide.

The house owner in which Shafiullah Baig and his family reside has to say that the Shafiullah Baig was a gentleman and cheerful guy and he could not take the extreme step. Some believe that Shafiullah Baig’s suicide is some way or other linked with the dual murder of the two brothers Mohammed Mustafa Husain and Mohammed Riyaz Husain.

Police is investigating the case with different angles.
