Makkah Moazzama, November 1: There has been a sharp increase in the incidence of divorce during the holidays of Eidain in Saudi Arabia. The reasons for divorce are not financial troubles or bickering over expenses but divorce is given or sought for petty reasons such as dispute over going to natal or in-laws house or purchase of new dresses on the occasion of Eid. According to the report of marriage consultant of Saudi Arabia a Saudi citizen has divorced his two wives for their demand for new clothes and another divorced his wife for his demand to take her to in-laws house on the occasion of Eid.
A total of 9233 divorce incidents occurred in Saudi Arabia of which maximum number of divorces i.e. 2518 occurred in Makkah Moazzama and 1970 occurred in eastern province, the minimum number of divorces was noticed in Madina Munawwara.
One of the reasons for this is the marriage system of Saudi Arabia in which much burden of marriage expenditure is placed upon groom’s family. Marrying non Saudi girls is prohibited. In Saudi Arabia a housewife doesn’t save a penny from her husband’s earning as she fears that if her husband’s earning is saved he will perform another marriage.
A woman who studied in America got married 17 times complaining of not having mutual understanding and harmony with her husband yet.
