Rise in number of cases baffles officials

Hyderabad, August 26: The increasing number of indigenous swine flu cases in the city is causing worry to doctors and officials alike.

The city has reported 18 indigenous cases of swine flu in the past three days including nine fresh cases confirmed today.

Of the 20 swine flu cases confirmed in the State, 18 patients had no history of foreign travel. Only two patients, whose cases were confirmed on August 23, had travelled abroad. Interestingly, all these cases were from Hyderabad. During this week, the officials also identified three swine flu patients with no foreign travel at Visakhapatnam. “We are definitely worried about the increasing number of indigenous cases and are taking all possible measures for its prevention. Most of these indigenous patients are being given treatment using Oseltemivir tablets and are being advised for home quarantine,’’ said an official in the Health and Medical department.

As a preventive measure, the doctors have started treating several patients with swine flu symptoms despite their cases were not confirmed by the diagnostic centres.

In all, 131 swine flu cases have been confirmed in the State till now, Seven of them are from Visakhapatnam.
