Rise in death sentences: Wanted executioners for Saudi

Saudi Arabia advertises for eight new executioners for recruiting extra staff to carry out most gruesome jobs of public beheadings after increase in number of death sentences.

According to the UK Guardian, “No special qualifications are needed for the jobs whose main role is “executing a judgment of death” but also involve performing amputations on those convicted of lesser offences, the advertisement, posted on the civil service jobs portal, said.”

In Saudi Arabia, rape, murder, drug trafficking, apostasy and armed robbery are all crimes punishable by death, whereas amputation is a common punishment for theft.

According to Amnesty International figures, the kingdom is said to be in the top five countries in the world for putting people to death.
