Rio de Janeiro (Brazil): India’s badminton contingent suffered a major setback as ace shuttlers Manu Attri and Sumeeth B. Reddy were on Friday crashed out of the men’s doubles event after suffering their second successive defeat in their group play stage here at the Rio Olympics.
After losing the opening game with a huge margin, Attri and Reddy came back with an improved performance in the second game, but that was not enough for them to seal a victory against the Chinese duo of Chai Biao And Hong Wei.
The Chinese pair took just 35 minutes to thrash the Indian Olympic debutants 21-13, 21-15 in the second Group D match at Riocentro-Pavilion.
Earlier, the women’s doubles pair of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa also bowed out of the prestigious quadrennial event after suffering their second defeat at the hands of Dutch pair of Eefje Muskens and Selena Piek in Group A clash.(ANI)
