Rio 2016: Indian golfer Anirban Lahiri struggles in men’s individual opener

Rio de Janeiro (Brazil): It was a rollercoaster day for ace Indian golfer Anirban Lahiri at Rio Olympics as he made a lowly 50th-place finish in the opening round of the men’s individual stroke play here at Olympic Golf Course on Friday.

The 29-year-old from Pune struggled with five birdies in his first 12 holes before pulling it back towards the end with birdies on the 15th and 18th hole to end the day at +3 over par in Barra Da Tijuca.

Meanwhile, SSP Chawrasia, the other golfer in fray, started the campaign in much better position than Anirbani as he posted four bogeys and four birdies to finish the day even-par at 27th spot.

Australia’s Marcus Fraser topped the leader board after posting 9 birdies and 1 bogey in his total of -8 under par 63.

The opening day also saw the return of golf to the Summer Olympics after a 112-year hiatus. (ANI)
