Hyderabad, July 24: The Network of Persons with Disabilities Organizations (NPDO) held a State-level workshop on the rights of children with disabilities.
The two-day workshop will focus on the right of the disabled children with respect to the government as well as other schemes due to them.
The chief guest on the inaugural day of the workshop was J C Sharma, Principal Secretary, Primary Education Department. The other guests include Mohd Ali Rafath, State Project Director, Rajeev Vidya Mission and R Venkat Reddy, National Convener, MV Foundation, AP.
Sharma shared that it was disturbing to hear about the neglected plight about the disabled children. “From today onwards, with all your cooperation, we will act and implement the schemes. There are a few gaps in the system and we will try to fill these up,” Sharma assured the disabled members.
Sharma stressed on the need for forming teams with the disabled members at the mandal, district as well as state-level to assist the disabled.
Speaking earlier, R Venkat Reddy demanded that separate books and special lecturers be provided to the disabled.
Explaining that receiving proper education is the fundamental right of a disabled child, the doctor said, “There is definitely a laxity in the attitude of the Education Department. They should distribute free study material to the disabled children and also wheelchairs.”
