GURGAON: Activists belonging to certain right-wing Hindu outfits created tensions in Gurgaon’s colony, over the use of loudspeakers at a mosque in the locality.
The protest took place on Wednesday at Sheetla Mata colony.
“We have submitted a letter addressed to the divisional commissioner, and have been offered reassurance that action will be taken against anyone who indulges in such behavior,” Haji Shehzad Khan, the chairman of the Muslim Ekta Manch said.
“For the sake of brotherhood, officials have told us to lower the volume of the loudspeaker. We agreed,” Khan said, reported The Indian Express.
The representatives of the Muslim Community said despite the volume being lowered, some ‘anti-social’ elements who were from outside the village were not ‘satisfied’ and indulged in sloganeering and threatening with dire consequences.
Shehzad Khan said, “They said they did not like the presence of a mosque in the locality, and that they would not allow us to pray there. They also indulged in sloganeering and threatened to kill us and burn our homes.”
Earlier this year, six men from the right-wing organizations disrupted the namaz prayers in Gurgaon’s sector 53 and bullied Muslim men while chanting “Jai Shree Ram slogans.”
