The State Government on Wednesday claimed that the Rs one-a-kg rice scheme has been benefitting about 3.38 lakh families in the State.
Replying to a question raised by Congress MLA Anam Vivekananada Reddy and others during Question Hour, Civil Supplies Minister D Sridkhar Babu said that the scheme was aimed at helping the poor and almost 88 per cent of the ration card holders were getting benefitted from the scheme. He said steps were being taken to weed out the bogus ration cards.
The minister also denied the allegations levelled by TDP’s Gali Muddu Krishnamma Naidu and CPM’s J Ranga Reddy that the scheme was being misused to smuggle the rice to open market.
Sridhar Babu also informed the House that the Food Security Act has not yet come into force in the State. (INN)
