New Delhi: BJP on Sunday said the revocation of embattled liquor baron and lawmaker Vijay Mallya’s passport shows the Narendra Modi-government’s resolve in acting against the corrupt and law offenders but asked Congress why it had bailed out the liquor baron during their regime.
BJP national secretary Srikant Sharma said the BJP-led government has “zero tolerance” towards corruption and it will take all steps to ensure that the law offenders and the corrupt involved in various scams are brought to book and every penny recovered from them.
“The action of revoking Vijay Mallya’s passport shows the resolve of the NDA government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi that it will not spare anyone involved in corruption and scam. The government has a policy of zero tolerance towards corruption and will act sternly against all offenders of law and will recover every penny of government money from them,” he said.
Attacking the Congress, the BJP leader questioned Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi as to why the previous UPA government had “bailed” out Mr Mallya even when he was a “defaulter”.
“Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi should explain to the people of the country as to why the previous Congress government had given a bailout package to Mallya and what was their deal with him,” Mr Sharma said.
The BJP leader also accused Congress leadership of shielding the corrupts during their regime for which the country would never forgive them.
He also charged Congress leaders of indulging in “corruption and multi-crore scams” during the regime.
