Hyderabad: Govt. of Telangana has decided to collect the details of the income and properties of Teachers working in Govt. schools. They are advised to submit their returns before 10th January 2017.
It may be noted that Govt. of A.P. had decided in 1998 to collect annual property returns and the details incomes of teachers but it was not implemented properly. Commissioner of Education, Mr. G. Kishan issued orders to the teachers to submit these details which has created panic among the teachers.
So far, Govt. was collecting information of income and properties from IAS, IPS, IFS, Secretary, Addl. Secretary and other heads of departments. The Govt. contends that State Govt. teachers engage themselves in real estate business and other occupations which is against the rules. The Dept. of Education also received complaints that Govt. teachers are working as advisors in some corporate schools. With a view to streamlining administration and to keep the teaching community free from corruption, this step has been taken.
Teachers’ organizations are opposing this move of the Govt. and claimed that it is a humiliation to the teaching profession. On the other hand, the officials of the Dept. of education say that some of the teachers make misuse of their position and accumulate money through foul means.
