Revenue Dept approved Mahavir hospital lease extension, MIM oppose

After shilly-shallying for almost two years on renewal of lease of Mahavir Hospital land at AC Guards, the revenue department has at last approved the proposal to renew the lease for a period of 30 years.

On Friday, the revenue department issued GO (MS No 230) permitting the Hyderabad district collector to renew the lease of the land for 30 years as of March 2007, the year the lease expired.

The state government had given on lease 14,798 sq yards (over three acres) land to Bhagwan Mahavir Memorial Trust in August 1975, where Mahavir Hospital and Research Centre and Mahavir Memorial Trust have been operating.

The trust used to pay a minimal rent of Rs 12 yearly for the land. As the lease expired in March 2007, the trust sought its extension, but no decision was taken by the revenue department.

Meanwhile, Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) leaders contradict the extension of the lease alleging that the hospital outsourced some of its services, which was against the norms.

They also sought the three-acre land for Deccan College of Medical Sciences (DCMS) administer by Dar-us-Salam Educational Trust, which is being run by the Owaisi family.

After a report submitted by the district collector, the Chief Commissioner of Land Administration recommended extension of the lease to the hospital.

The revenue department, in its GO, said the land should be utilized only for the purpose for which it was allotted and it should not be put to any money-making use in any manner.

The possession would be retained with the government and the right to enter upon the land as and when required by the government without any notice.
