The Special Court for ACB Cases here on Monday extended the judicial remand of Telangana TDP MLA A. Revanth Reddy and two others, the accused in the cash-for-vote scandal, till July 13.
Revanth Reddy along with his accomplices Uday Simha and Sebastian were arrested by the ACB sleuths on May 31 after a sting operation for allegedly trying to woo nominated Anglo-Indian MLA Elvis Stephenson with money to vote in favor of TDP nominee Vem Narender Reddy in the recent MLC elections.
Since the judicial remand of the accused expired today, the ACB prosecutors filed another memo in the Special Court seeking further extension on the ground that the investigations into the murky deal has reached a crucial stage and granting bail to the accused would jeopardize the probe.
After perusing the memo and the grounds on which the extension was sought, the court granted the same till July 13. Meanwhile the judgment in the bail appeal of Revanth Reddy filed in the High Court is scheduled for tomorrow (Tuesday).
It is pertinent to note here that the time given to another TDP MLA Sandra Venkata Veeriah of Sattupally constituency, who has been evading the ACB’s notice to appear before it for recording his statement in connection with the scandal, expires today. Speculations were rife that if he fails to respond to the notice, the ACB sleuths are likely to arrest him for questioning. Two special teams were stated to have been set up by the investigating officers for the purpose.
Even the ACB seemed to be getting ready to take required measures to conduct the voice test of AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu in connection with the scam. (NSS)
