Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao said the revival and revamping of Sri Ram Sagar Project (SRSP) would be a boon to the farmers in raising two crops.
Stating this in the Assembly during question hour, Harish Rao said the State government has given the required administration sanction to provide Rs 1,067 crore for the SRSP. Besides, for revitalizing and improving the reservoirs and improving the water utility, another sum of Rs 1,000 crore has been provided, he explained.
The minister said that project is being taken up at a minimum cost and would be completed in a short time. Stating that the works on the project would be completed by June-July next year, water will be provided to the reservoir through lift irrigation. He also allayed the fears of some members that the tail-end areas would be denied the required quantum of water. The project would help in providing the water needs to irrigate 16.5 lakh acres, he added.
Taking the opportunity to take a dig at the erstwhile Congress government in neglecting the SRSP project, Harish Rao pointed out that though the project would meet irrigation needs of 85,000 acres in Bhupalapally constituency, which was being represented by the Assembly Speaker S Madhusudana Chary, could not provide even a drop of water during the past.
