Abu Dhabi, February 09: A worker has no right to demand a return ticket to his country if he applies for cancellation and departure, especially if his employer has been paying his entitlements regularly and wishes to retain him, the Ministry of Labour has affirmed.
Nine Pakistani workers applied on Monday during the ministry’s open day in Abu Dhabi for their legal rights, including return tickets to their home expressing their desire not to continue working with their employer.
Jamil Jassim, Director of Guidance Department, clarified that the workers can get their full entitlements, plus air tickets, if the employer terminates the work relationship and not vice verse. Some 33 complaints were handled during the open day, of which one request was by 19 workers at a contracting company.
