The announcement made regarding restoration of Qutub Shahi Tombs in the house on Monday has surprised heritage activists and Agha Khan Trust officials alike, as nothing has been done on the project after Central government had announced restoration of Qutub Shahi Tombs during 2015-16 budget a year ago. Central government had announced restoration work, chemical washing along with ‘deposit work’. In the documents submitted in the house on Monday, it has been claimed that the project has been implemented. The claim is far from reality as according to sources not even final consultation has been made in this regard, let alone implementation of project.
Government of Telangana and Agha Khan Trust officials have to say that central government has not begun any work so far, whatever restoration and revitalization works have been undertaken so far, have been done by Agha Khan Trust.
In order to implement last year’s budgetary commitments memorandum of understanding needed to be signed between the agencies working on the project and state government and the centre; but concerned officials have to say that no MoU has been signed by the centre regarding the project.
