K.N. Daruwalla Member National Commission for Minorities is on his visit to Hyderabad these days to review the measures taken up for implementation of minority schemes and protection of Waqf Properties. He met chiefs of various institutions and reviewed the performance. Later speaking to Siasat correspondent Mr. Daruwalla told that Waqf Board faces some difficulties in protection of Waqf properties due to non cooperation of police and revenue department. Despite government orders regarding removal of unauthorised occupation, the board does not get complete support from the police for eviction of unauthorised occupants. Regarding allotment of valuable Waqf property to Lanco Hills and other institutions he stressed the need to ensure effective legal defence. He felt that instead of fighting a lengthy legal battle in the courts it is better to resolve the disputes out of court.
Meanwhile chairman state minority commission Abid Rasool Khan rebuffed the proposal terming it as impossible. He claimed that Waqf Board’s position in the case is quite strong and the case can be won with effective defence.
