Resolution would have been defeated by 225 votes

Hyderabad, August 07: Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal said that if a resolution favouring separate Telangana was introduced in the Assembly following the statement by Union home minister P Chidambaram, it would have been defeated by a 225-vote majority.

When justice Srikrishna asked about the Assembly adopting a resolution after Chidambaram’s statement in December last year, Rajagopal said it would have been defeated by 225 votes. He pointed out that the powers to adopt a resolution were cancelled to states through the Constitution.

Asked about the sentiment for separate Telangana, Rajagopal said that only 60 per cent of the population was in favour of Telangana and it varied from district to district.

In north Telangana 80 per cent of the people were in favour of Telangana fewer people supported it in south Telangana, Rajagopal explained.

Asked about the Congress party’s stand, Rajagopal said the Congress Working Committee (CWC) was committed to a second SRC.

When another member VK Duggal wanted Rajagopal to carry out a study on the injustice done to Telangana people in employment, Rajagopal said that the study should go into the details of caste-wise, religious-wise and also region-wise employment situation.
