Residents sore over GHMC Apathy over illegal building construction

The aggrieved members of Steet No. 11 Vidyanagar Residents Welfare Association have complained that a residential hostel building coming up in the colony (Street No. 11, Vidyanagar) for Chaitanya Educational Group, is now being converted into a commercial building to ensure five-feet setback for road from the 35 feet existing road, as in the case of adjoining buildings.
In a pressnote here on Monday, the residents said the revised building setback is being implemented for 40-feet wide road. As per the sanctioned plan, the site has two roads on the east side. Now only one road exists on the eastern side and the building has been constructed on the second road. As per the municipal sanction, the building is meant for a residential hostel, but Messrs Chaitanya Techno School is proposing to shift their Nallakunta School to this new building on May 20 even without obtaining occupancy certificate. The building height has also been increased against the sanctioned plan. An additional pathway of 3.6 meter on the rear (north side) has not been taken up.
The residents pointed out that the erstwhile MCH plan of 1974 clears mentioned the road should be 40ft. There was a grape garden with a compound wall which was later converted into a marriage hall till 2012. This peace of land has 35ft road. Now, a building is being constructed by the Chaitanya Education Group for purpose of a residential hostel. The total land of marriage hall was divided into two plots. When the land was divided likewise, a clear 3.6 metre of additional land should be left for pathway by both parties as per GO No. 168. The GO was totally ignored, they stated, adding that the owner in the mortgage document with the GHMC clearly stated before sanction of the plan, the road in front (south) side is 40ft. This is corroborated by registered document with SRO Chikkadpally in No. 2911/2013.
The residents welfare association has stated that since September 29 last year, several representations were made to the GHMC. A case was also filed in the High Court in October last. When there was response, a contempt was also filed on April 28, 2014 in CC /3182/14. They said they met the GHMC commissioner five times, but no action has been taken for the reasons best known to the authorities, the residents’ welfare association president M. Raghava Rao bemoaned.
