Reshmi Dey’s ‘Glass Sutra’ to shape our ‘fragile’ medium of expression

New Delhi [India]): ‘Born to glass’ is the only sutra for artist Reshmi Dey- India’s first glass educator and entrepreneur.

Glass Sutra is a one-of-a-kind glass art studio, in Delhi’s Chattarpur area, to promote studio glass and craft.

Spread across 5,000 sq. ft, the studio provides all national and international glass art creators, artists, professionals and enthusiasts of this art form – liberty to express their creativity, originality, innovation, and experimentation through glass.

The studio plans to conduct tailor made workshops, ranging from basic glass art and craft to intensive glass-making classes.

According to Dey, Glass Sutra is to “impart education, awareness and appreciation about glass and its art form (glassblowing, flame working, Kiln Fusing and Slumping , cold working etc) in India.”

She also plans for a “social outreach programme, such as, educational and skill development training programs, especially for underprivileged and girl child.”

Adding, “R&D on working in conjunction with other materials (textile/metal/jute) and Glass to make India a global name in this art form.”

Speaking about her further plans, Reshmi said, “Different programmes will be conducted, along with visiting international artists under the ‘Visiting Artist Program’; as well as various national artists and artisans from Firozabad, who will promote the education of studio glass.”

Her journey through the creative Glass world, around the globe, gave Reshmi knowledge about studio equipments, tools and know-how to set up a studio and its business.

In her quest for understanding the material, technique, technology and its art form, she forged many associations with various institutions and individual artists around the globe for collaboration, and this journey today has amalgamated into the formation of Studio Glass Sutra. (ANI)
