Hyderabad, August 26: Telugu Desam president N Chandrababu Naidu came under fire from his own party MLAs today for his immediate support to the government in the Assembly.
Though Naidu fully supported the government’s resolution seeking SC status to Dalit Christians, there is a strong resentment among some of the TDP MLAs. Without a second thought, Naidu supported the resolution immediately after Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy introduced it in the Assembly.
TDP MLA M Narasimhulu too supported the resolution.
But, when the House was adjourned, some TDP MLAs expressed their ire over Naidu for readily accepting the government’s resolution.
“We should have demanded that the resolution be referred to a select committee.
What is the urgency to support the resolution immediately?’’ a TDP MLA from Telangna was seen arguing with his colleagues in the Telugu Desam Legislature Party office.
Naidu was not there then, having left the Assembly immediately after the House was adjourned.
Another MLA from coastal Andhra too felt that Naidu should not have supported the resolution.
Another leader termed the chief minister `anti-Hindu’ for introducing the resolution and not taking up the TTD issue in the House.
Interestingly, the TDP had promised to grant SC status to Dalit Christians and included it in its 2009 election manifesto.
