Research in Social Sciences essential for Universities- Najeeb Jung

University students and Universities should concentrate on research in Social Sciences. It is regrettable that in India, less attention is being paid towards this. This was expressed by Mr. Najeeb Jung, Lt. Governor of Delhi while addressing the book release function at Maulana Azad National Urdu University at Hyderabad yesterday. The book titled “Cartographic Map of Deccan” produced by Prof. Haroon Khan Sherwani Center for Deccan Studies of Urdu University. Prof. Mohammed Miyan, Vice Chancellor of Urdu University presided over the function. Dr. Khwaja Mohammed Shahid, Pro-Vice Chancellor of Urdu University introduced Mr. Najeeb Jung. Prof. V.Rama Krishna, former Head of the Department of History at University of Hyderabad and member of the Advisory Committee of the Center for Deccan Studies highlighted the aims and objectives of the Center.

Mr. Najeeb Jung advised the students to broaden their minds for carrying out research and make themselves useful for the world by building their personalities. By observing the present trend of the students in India, it seems that our youngsters are competing with each other for the development of Science and Technology. Everybody seems to be silent about carrying out research in Social Sciences.

He further told that the book produced by the Center is an excellent example of historical research. He congratulated the members of the center for producing this excellent document. He also advised the students that they should not get education only for the sake of acquiring knowledge but they should achieve competence in their respective subjects.

Prof. Mohammed Miyan in his presidential address told that the students of Urdu University are serving throughout the world. He further told that Prof. Haroon Khan Sherwani Center for Deccan Studies is becoming famous as a center for Social Science Research. He informed that a plan has been formulated for the establishment of Center for Central Asian Studies.

Prof. Rama Krishna told that Deccan region is unique and important from geographical point of view. The climatic conditions of this region are different from other areas. People of different cultures have inhabited here. He told that a lot of research has been done on the political history of Deccan. There is a need for carrying out Research in the areas of Deccani culture and civilization.

Dr. Salma Farooqui, Director of Prof. Haroon Khan Sherwani Center for Deccan Studies in her speech told that 135 maps written in 10 different languages containing various aspects of Deccan have been published in this book. The book is bilingual. It contains matter in English and Urdu. Dr. Faheemuddin Ahmed, Asst. Professor of Department of Translation studies, Urdu University translated it in Urdu.

Mr. Syed Anwarul Huda, IPS, DGP, Mr. J.M. Lingdoh, former Chief Election Commissioner, Mr. Syed Umer Jaleel, IAS, Commissioner of Land Revenues, Dr. Vasanth Kumar Bawa, IAS (Rtd), Mr. Syed Turabul Hasan, IAS (Rtd), Mr. Khaleequr Rehman, Senior Congress leader and other dignitaries of the city were present in the function. Mr. Abid Abdul Wasey, Asst. Public Relations Officer of Urdu University conducted the meeting.
