Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday revealed that he had raised the issue of complete statehood for Delhi during his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday.
“When I met the Prime Minister, I told him that god cannot give a better chance than this. We have an absolute majority in Delhi and you have a full majority at the Centre. If we both decide that Delhi should get complete statehood, then it will definitely get it,” said Kejriwal.
“In election campaigns, the Bharatiya Janata Party talked of giving complete statehood to Delhi in their manifesto. For the last 15 years, the Bharatiya Janata Party has been fighting to give compete statehood to Delhi. Even before the Lok Sabha elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party had promised the people of Delhi that they will give them complete statehood,” he added.
Kejriwal further said his party would like to have constructive cooperation with the central government to make the capital city a great place to live in. “We want to work together with the central government, we want constructive co-operation to make Delhi a great place to live in,” Kejriwal said.
Kejriwal, 46, was administered the oath of office and secrecy by Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung at the sprawling Ramlila ground here.
Six other Aam Aadmi Party leaders – Manish Sisodia, Asim Ahmed Khan, Sandeep Kumar, Satyendar Jain, Gopal Rai and Jitender Singh Tomar were also sworn-in as ministers.
