Kurnool, October 13: Chief Minister K Rosaiah had an unusual visitor _ a serpent _ at Nandyal today.
It lay underneath the red carpet rolled out for him that led to a tent where the he held a media conferece.
The snake, coiled and calm, lay under the red carpet till the chief minister spoke on the flood ravage and listed out the measures he was initating to mitigate their suffering.
After the media conference was over, the chief minister left the place but the snake lay underneath the carpet and after the place was deserted it slithered out and slowly crawled away from the tent into a crevice in a small building built with rocks nearby.
Though the security personnel had a through check of the area, their gadgets could not detect the snake as they are meant to find out if any explosives are hidden anywhere. Though snakes could be very lethal, the gadets proved to be powerless before the coiled creature.
After the snake had left, the officials came to know about it and heaved a sigh of relief that nothing happened.
But a few minutes later they survived tense moments again when the chopper in which Rosaiah was to take off for Guntur for visiting flood affected parts could not lift off because its wheels got stuck in the mud.
The drama continued for more than 10 minutes.
After a struggle, the pilots could finally wriggle free of the mud and take off.
