IS reportedly killed over 200 own fighters for trying to flee war

A senior monitoring group claims that the Islamic State militants have killed at least 120 of its own fighters for trying to flee jihad and return home.

According to The Independent, the British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that the brutal militant group killed the jihadists – most of whom were foreign fighters – for trying to flee the territory adding that the true number could be even higher.

Rami Abdurrahman, the director of the rights group confirmed that 120 fighters had been killed by IS. But, he said that the group’s sources on the ground estimated the number of those killed to be over 200.

The monitoring group said that 116 of 120 militants executed for “exceeding the limits in religion” were believed to be foreign fighters- mostly European – who wanted to return home.

However, the age and nationalities of those killed could not be confirmed, the report said.
