Report will satisfy majority: Justice Srikrishna

New Delhi, December 29: Mr Justice N Srikrishna, chairman of the Sri Krishna Committee appointed by the Centre to look into the Telangana tangle has expressed hope that their report would satisfy majority of people of Andhra Pradesh and peace would prevail in the State.

All the members of the committee appeared before the media here on Tuesday to say thanks to the press for their cooperation during the compilation of the report.’

Mr Justice Srikrishna has said that they also hoped that there would be no violence after December 31, after the submission of their report. Stating that he was never known to have crossed the time given to him, he said that the committee would submit its report before December 31, the time given to the committee. He, however, declined to divulge the contents of the report. He said that the report would give maximum satisfaction to maximum number of people. He exuded confidence that the work given to them was efficiently completed.

When questioned why the government made elaborate security arrangements in Andhra Pradesh, Mr Justice Srikrishna has said that it was the duty of the government to make security arrangements even when there was an iota of doubt about security. He referred to the elaborate security arrangements made by the government during the visit of the US President and during other occasions.

The Member-secretary, Mr V K Duggal, has said that though the report was not voluminous, it was large. He said that it was divided into two volumes. He also declined to reveal the number of pages.

Mr Duggal said that the committee members had visited 35 villages and had elaborate interaction with the people. They held 100 meetings, he said, adding that the report was comprehensive and totally unbiased. Stating that India was a multi-faceted and multi-cultured society, these diversities were taken note of in the report.

All the members of the committee were present at the press conference which was attended by the national media also.
