Report on Kolhapur rape case in three days

Mumbai, April 29: The probe into the Kolhapur police training school sex scandal will be completed within two to three days, said home minister R R Patil. Also, the report submitted by Maithili Jha, additional superintendent of police, Nashik (rural), will be examined by Pune police commissioner Meera Borwankar, before any action is taken.

“The state government has taken the issue seriously. No one will be spared in this case. The probe will be completed within next two to three days,” he said.

Following complaints of sexual harassment of trainee women constables at the school, the state on Tuesday ordered a high-level probe into the incident. The government directed Jha to probe the incident. However, the Opposition parties and MLA Hasan Mushrif (NCP), who hails from Kolhapur, raised doubts about Jha conducting the probe. The BJP demanded that probe should be taken over from Jha and handed over to some other lady officer. Mushrif suggested that Borwankar should be asked to probe the case.

Patil said, “Jha is a new recruit. Her service record is quite good. Therefore she has been asked to conduct the probe into the incident.” Patil added that the probe report submitted by Jha would be examined by Borwankar.
