To repay loan, duo kidnap, kill 17-year-old boy

Mumbai, November 21: Two youths kidnapped and killed the son of a shop owner to pay off the loan.

The crime branch of the Mumbai police arrested two men for kidnapping and murdering a 17-year-old Suresh Parmar, son of a metal dealer. His body was found in a decomposed state in the Tungareshwar Bird Sanctuary, Vasai, on Friday.

The accused — Pravin Purohit, 21, and Arjun Purohit, 23, — had demanded a ransom of Rs5 lakh from Talkaram Parmar, Suresh’s father, who has a shop in Bhuleshwar.

Suresh was kidnapped from the shop on November 13. The police suspect that the he was strangulated the same day.However, the ransom calls continued till Wednesday.

“The duo threatened to kill Suresh if Talkaram did not pay the money. They even warned him against approaching the police,” said Rakesh Maria, joint commissioner of police, crime.

The police traced the number from which the duo had called, which lead them to one Ghervarchand, who claimed to have purchased the mobile phone from Pravin. Police then found Pravin who confessed that he had kidnapped the boy with his friend Arjun’s help. The duo was arrested from Rajasthan on Friday.

In his statement, Pravin said that he had taken a huge loan from one Mehfood, who owned the shop next to Talkaram. Mehfood had introduced It was through him that Pravin met Talkaram and they became good friends.

The duo will be produced in court on Saturday.
