The Waqf properties in India are used to eliminate educational and economic backwardness of Muslims and to eradicate poverty and unemployment prevalent among them but sadly no measures are being taken on government level to protect the waqf properties. As far as the rents of waqf properties are concerned, rents of more than Rs. 3 crore are due to Waqf Board. Although there are thousands of institutions and more than 1.5 lakh waqf land under Waqf Board but their control is in others hand while the Waqf Board in a way is deprived of their rightful use. Waqf board gets paltry rents for the valuable properties. In the times of rising prices surprisingly some shops are given on rent on a meager amount of just Rs 62. There is a waqf property at Gunfoundry (Top ka Sancha) worth nearly 1 crore but you would be surprised to learn that its rent is just Rs 99.
It must be noted that Waqf Board Chairman Maulana Syed Ghulam Afzal Biabani Khusro Pasha had formed a committee comprising of 3 teams for collection of rents and funds. The teams collected Rs. 2406273 towards funds and Rs 4688565 towards rents till Tuesday, April 30. However even after the collection of the said amount Rs 3 crore are still outstanding.
