The failure of a tenant to pay the house rent for the last five months drove the landlady to suicide.
The incident happened in Jhirra of Asifnagar police limits. The deceased, Shaik Hanibi, who had set herself ablaze on October 22, died at the Osmania General Hospital on Sunday night. Enquiries by the police revealed that the deceased owned a house Chintalmet which she had given on rent to one Sunitha. On October 21, she went to Sunitha’s house to collect the rent which was due for five months. However, she did not pay the rent and asked her to come the next day.
Hanibi was pulled by her husband Babu Miya and son Abu for her failure to collect the rent from the tenant. She assured them that she would collect the rent from Sunitha at any cost the next day. However, when she went to Chintalmet on October 22, she learnt that Sunitha had gone away to her village. Fearing that her husband and son would scold her again, she resorted to the extreme step.
