Renovation work on Charminar masjid in final phase

Renovation work on Charminar masjid is progressing at a brisk pace, with the inner arches of the monument getting a chemical wash and the damaged stucco work a cement coat. The repeated representation made earlier to archeological survey of India regarding damaged stucco work in the 4-minaret masjid built by Sultan Mohammed Quli Qutub Shah fell on deaf years. The repair was avoided sometimes on the pretext of insufficient budget and sometimes on dearth of experts. However after the publication of special reports in Siasat on 26-07-12, 13-4-13, 16-10-13 and 19-10-13, subsequently the repair work for the historical 4 arched masjid began and it is hoped that the work will be complete within a month.

A 6-member team of expert belonging to Tamilnadu, led by Ravi Chandra is working on the renovation project. This historical masjid is at a height of 160 feet above the ground and the diameter of its minarets is 80 feet.

Quli Qutub Shah built this famous structure to commemorate the elimination of a plague epidemic from this city. He is said to have prayed for the end of a plague that was ravaging his city and vowed to build a masjid at the very place where he was praying.

After merger of Hyderabad the ASI closed the doors of this historical mosque for Muslims.
