Remand for IAS officer in bribe case

Mohali, November 10: A senior IAS officer, who was allegedly caught accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh, was remanded in two-day custody of Vigilance Bureau.

Vijay Kumar Janjua, Secretary-cum-Director, Industries and Commerce, was arrested by the Vigilance sleuths yesterday while accepting bribe from a Ludhiana industrialist.

Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate, Lalit Kumar Singla, directed the agency to produce him before the court on Thursday.

The VB had sought ten-day custody of the 1989 IAS officer for ascertaining his alleged unaccounted assets and assess his bank details.

Defence counsels argued that Janjua was implicated in a false and baseless case and that the bribe money was planted in a file cover, upon opening which Janjua was surprised to see it.
