A meeting organised by the Act Now for Harmony and Democracy (ANHAD) on Saturday demanded a probe into the activities of Hindu outfits, release of Muslim youths arrested for the 2006 Malegaon blast, reinvestigation of all blast cases in past two decades and a white paper on the number of Muslims arrested in blast cases. The meeting was held to release a report titled What It Means To Be A Muslim In India Today.
The report—a combined report of Peoples’ Tribunal on atrocities committed against minority in the name of fighting terrorists (August 22 to 24, 2008 at Hyderabad) and national meet on status of Muslims in contemporary India (October 3 to 5, 2009 at Delhi)—was released by Mahesh Bhatt.
Speaking on the occasion, Maulana Abdul Hameed Azhari, a Malegaon cleric, slammed the state government for not releasing Muslim youths arrested in the 2006 Malegaon blast case, despite Swami Aseemanand’s confession that Hindu outfits were involved in the case.
