Release RUSA funds: Srihari urges Javadekar

Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari today urged the Centre to give adequate funds to Telangana State for promoting higher education and spending of the funds under RUSA (Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan) scheme for development and promotion of higher education at national level.

Srihari made the appeal while H participating in a National Mission Authority Meeting chaired by Union Human Resources Development Minister Prakash Javadekar in Delhi and shared his views on educational schemes. Later he told the media that he gave some valuable suggestions and instructions at the meeting on the need for quality of education, which is to be imparted among the students.

Srihari said that he brought it to the notice of Javadekar during the meeting that at least half of the RUSA scheme funds are not being released. This is leading to delay in implementing the scheme which is remaining a non starter he said. The states could not complete the works pertaining to facilities and infrastructure at the educational institutions as the Centre is not releasing the funds under the scheme enabling the states to implement the scheme. Srihari also said that he sought the Centre to release the funds for backard areas, distrits and universities for facilities and infrastructure and spend Rusa funds to provide training for teachers to improve skills and to improve standards.

The Deputy Chief Minister said he urged the Union Minister to set up IIM and Woman University in Telangana  and sought financail assistance for conducting Osmania University Centenary Celebrations in a big way. (NSS)
