Release Rs 1,000 crore to TS: Jupally urges Centre

Telangana Panchayat Raj Minister Jupally Krishna Rao today appealed to the Centre to release Rs 1000 crore to the State to implement Employment Guarantee Scheme.

The Minister has written a letter to Union Panchayat Raj Minister Narendra Singh Tomar and urged the Centre to immediately release funds for the scheme whose works were stalled due to lack of funds. Krishna Rao sought release of Rs 500 crore for salaries for the workers and Rs 500 crore for material component to take up developmental works.

He brought it to the notice of the Union minister that the Employment Guarantee Scheme works remained stalled due to lack of funds in the State. The works have been taken up in 8,517 villages in 438 mandals of 30 districts in the State in a big way for individual toilets, rainwater pits, buildings for Anganwadi centers, village panchayats, internal roads.

So far, 30.40 lakh workers worked actively and completed 9.62 crore worth working days. On an average of 40.43 working days, they got Rs 138.75 crore salaries this financial year, he said. “We are paying 88 per cent of salaries for 15 days each by registering their works. The Centre is yet to release Rs 250 crore for payment of salaries and Rs 135 crore for material component under the scheme to the State, the minister said. (NSS)
