Relatives want Mariyam moved to Singapore hospital

Kin of Mariyam Kousar, the victim of alleged medical negligence, have written to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, requesting that the child should be shifted to Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore for further treatment.

The three-year-old Mariyam, was a victim of medical negligence after doctors at the Sanjay Gandhi Institute of Trauma and Orthopaedic Hospital administered her overdose of anaesthesia.

The family has urged the State to bear the medical expenses Mariyam. Noting that the child has been receiving treatment at Malathi Manipal Hospital in the City for more than five months, Rafiulla, Mariyam’s uncle, said the expenses had crossed Rs 16 lakh.

Rafiulla alleged that no one from the government officials bothered to check on the condition of the child.
“A charge sheet has been filed against the four doctors. They are out on bail now,” he said.

The family had get in touch with the State human rights commission and is awaiting response. They have also written to Health Minister U T Khader.
