A mind numbing incident of a widow being gang-raped and slashing of her private parts by her close relatives in Tuniki Bollarum in Medak district on the night of April 28 came to light.
According to a pressnote issued by Akhil Bharata Prajatantra Mahila Sangham (AIDWA), the victim Yadamma lost her husband some ten years ago and was living alone in her house after sending her two sons to Secunderabad to work in a hotel. She has three acres land and a house plot beside the house of her brother-in-law (husband’s elder brother) Bhikshapathi. Taking undue advantage of her poverty and loneliness, Bikshapathi lured her with false promises and got her property transferred on his name by obtaining her thumb impression on some blank papers. Realizing that she was cheated by Bhikshapathi, Yadamma approached the village elders for justice but in vain. Meanwhile, Bhikshapathi’s son Kanakaiah also allegedly kept an evil eye on Yadamma and conspired to teach her a lesson.
In a pre-meditated manner, Bhikshapathi, Kanakaiah and three others allegedly raped her on the night of April 28 and tortured her physically and mentally. Not satisfied with their heinous act, the sadists allegedly slashed her thighs, breasts and vagina with blades. As no villager came to her defence, Yadamma committed suicide by consuming pesticide.
Condemning the heinous incident, activists of Andhra Pradesh unit of All India Democratic Women’s Association on Friday burned an effigy of the culprits at Sundarayya Park in Baghlingampally.
AIDWA president T Jyothi, State leader C Aruna, GHMC north committee president S. Vijaya, secretary Sharada, GHMC south committee secretary M D Meena and Musheerabad unit secretary R Arun Jyothi demanded that the government immediately take action against the culprits under Nirbhaya Act. They also demanded that the government take immediate steps to restore the immovable property of Yadamma to her two sons. The AIDWA also threatened to launch agitation all over Telangana State if the government failed to act on the barbaric incident. (NSS)
