Rekha: From Khubsurat girl to Kama Sutra girl

Mumbai, July 14: Can you remember “Bhanurekha Ganesan”? Yes. We are talking about the Bollywood actress Rekha. From 70s era, the 56-year-old, Rekha is still a sex symbol of Indian cinema.

The versatile actor is still giving tough fight to new generation with her maintained figure and fresh look.

However, known for her women oriented characters, Rekha has donned almost every role in her 40-year long filmy career.

She has acted more than 180 films. In her 40 year long career can easily be divided in four segments.

In 1970s, Rekha started her career as a child actor n the Telugu film Rangula Ratnam (1966). In 1969, she starred in her first Hindi film, Anjana Safar. During this period she worked in movies like Do anjanee, Sawan Bhado, Kahani Kismat ki, Rampur ka Lakshman.

But she got the recognition with movie Ghar. After this she never looked back.

In 1980s, she worked in several blockbuster movies like Umrao Jaan, Muqaddar ka Sikandar and Silsila.

In 1990s, she turned to female oriented movies like Khoon Bhari maang, Mujhe Insaf Chahiye and Khubsurat.

After this, Rekha moved to bold roles. She played a sex teacher in director Meira Nayar’s
Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love, Aastha, Utsav and the commercially successful Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi.

The movie Kama Sutra was based on a controversial topic, which earned filmfare award for her. Kama Sutra Hindi movie is still hot searched item on internet. The Kama Sutra movie is based on famous sex book of ‘Vatsayayn’.

Rekha’s bold character in the movie forced actresses like Madhuri Dixit and Raveena Tandon to reconsider their roles to keep afloat in the race of number one.
