Rejected, he kills her

New Delhi, April 27: Varun Mehta, 26, had met Deepshikha Arora’s parents last week to ask for her hand in marriage but the schoolteacher reportedly refused to marry him since “she treated him only as a friend”, an officer said.

This, the police suspect, led Mehta to kill her.

It was, however, a one-sided ‘love’ affair, the police said. “When we contacted the woman’s family, they clearly said Deepshikha Arora was not in love with anyone,” an officer said.

Son of a Delhi High Court advocate, Mehta worked as an assistant manager in Citi-Finance, at its Noida Sector-18 office. He was also pursuing MBA through correspondence from Symbiosis institute.

Deepshikha and Mehta had known each other for over 15 years they went to the same private school Bal Bharti School in East Delhi’s Brijpuri and then completed their graduation from Maharaja Agrasen College in Delhi University. The two families stay in the same area and know each other, an officer said.

After graduation, Deepshikha became a teacher, at Heritage Public School in East Delhi’s Priyadarshini Vihar, and also joined her father Gulshan Arora’s coaching centre. Arora started the tuition centre in East Delhi after the company he worked for, Kelvinator, closed down.

“She spent her time in the school and then in the coaching centre helping her father,” said a neighbour, who did not wish to be named.

The Aroras stay in Gobind Khand in Vivek Vihar, East Delhi. Neighbours said Deepshikha was the eldest child her younger siblings are sister Harshita and brother Gagan.

According to the police, Mehta had already written the ‘murder note’ when he brought Deepshikha to Cross River Mall in Karkardooma in the family’s WagonR car. He left the note in the driver’s seat after killing her, as he wanted people to read it, the police suspect.

Mehta is survived by his father Deep Mehta, mother Beena and younger brother Tarun.

What Mehta wrote: In a one-page Hindi note left in the car, Varun Mehta wrote: “If you cannot be mine, I will not let you be with anyone else either… You are not ready to marry me…that’s why I am taking this step.”
