New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday ruled that vehicles of India’s top constitutional authorities will need to have registration numbers.
The rule, the court said, will apply to the vehicles of the President, the Vice-President, the Governors and Lieutenant Governors of states and Union territories.
“The vehicles of these authorities need to get proper registration and shall clearly display the registration numbers,” ruled the court.
A plea was earlier filed in the Delhi High Court seeking enforcement of the display of registration numbers on cars of constitutional authorities and dignitaries, instead of just the State Emblem of India.
According to media reports, the petition, filed by an NGO, stated that the practice of displaying the state emblem, the four lions, instead of the registration numbers, made the cars conspicuous and the dignitaries an easy target for terrorists and anyone with malicious intent. (ANI)
