Hyderabad, December 21: In the event of bifurcation of the State, no injustice should be done to people in other regions, particularly those living in Rayalaseema as apprehensions of being left in the cold were quite high in that region, speakers at a day-long seminar here today felt.
The participants in the seminar, organised by HMTV at Jubilee Hall, included politicians, intellectuals, social activists and writers.
Congress leaders N Tulasi Reddy, Kamalakara Rao, Palvai Goavardhan Reddy and Tripurana Venkataratnam, spoke about the backwardness of their respective regions and how the issue could be addressed in the event of bifurcation of the State.
Telugu Desam leaders Ch Rajeswara Rao and Revanth Reddy, TRS leaders E Rajender and N Narasimha Reddy, BJP leaders G Kishan Reddy and Shanta Reddy, PRP leader Shravan, and LSP leader K Srinivas put forth their points of view.
Other participants included intellectuals Vara Vara Rao, Potturi Venkateswara Rao and Ghanta Chakrapani. HMTV chief editor K Ramachandra Murthy acted as the moderator.
Those who were vocal about injustice being done to their region were those from Rayalaseema who said partition of the State would do incalculable damage to their region. This led to an argument between them and the members of the TRS who contended that people of Telangana had been fighting for a separate State for more han five decades and in the name of the backwardness of Rayalaseema attempts should not be made to scuttle the formation of Telangana State.
