‘Refusal to fuel Iranian planes illegal’

Tehran, April 18: An Iranian aviation official has criticized several EU countries for refusing to supply Iranian passenger planes with fuel, calling it an illegal move.

IranAir’s Paris branch manager Behrouz Raeesi stressed on Saturday that the refusal of certain Western countries to refuel Europe-bound Iranian commercial planes was illegal as it could threaten the passenger safety.

He stressed that Tehran would take action if certain European countries continued to refuse to provide fuel for Iranian aircraft under US pressure.

Iranian passenger planes en route to Europe operate through making stopovers in European airports in Belgrade and Budapest.

Last week, Iran’s government stopped refueling some Western passenger planes landing in the Islamic Republic in retaliation for the measures taken against t he country.

Oil companies such as BP and Shell said six months ago that they would no longer refuel Iranian planes due to the unilateral sanctions against the Islamic Republic.

France’s Total and Austria’s OMV followed in their footsteps in March due to pressure from the US.
