Hyderabad, October 08: Nearly 6,000 gram panchayats in the state will be computerised with internet facility within a year for implementation of ePanchayat programme. The remaining 5,920 gram panchayats will be equipped with computers in a phased manner. The ePanchayats will facilitate issuing of trade licenses, birth and death certificates, and facilitate house tax collection among other works.
The panchayat raj department is planning to bring in several reforms for the benefit of rural people. The government plans to fill vacancies of panchayat secretaries by providing one officer for a rural cluster. ”Regularisation of 6,000 incharge secretaries is in the pipeline following which we will appoint another 3,000 panchayat secretaries. The officials will soon sort out hurdles for regularisation of incharge secretaries and appoint new secretaries as per requirement,” panchayat raj minister B Satyanarayana told reporters here today.
It has also been decided to construct about 6,000 panchayat buildings under the Bharat Nirman Rajiv Gandhi Seva Kendra with an outlay of about Rs 511 crore. These gram panchayats will serve as a single-point interface in villages offering a host of services. With the construction of these buildings, all the gram panchayats in the state will have their own buildings with adequate infrastructure. The minister said that the government has temporarily shelved the proposal for declaring hamlets with a minimum population of 500 as gram panchayats.
”The government has decided to take up developmental activities based on cluster system where all hamlets and gram panchayats will be clubbed to form a cluster with a population of 6,000 people. Hence, there is no possibility of taking up both the proposals simultaneously,” the minister said.
Satyanarayana stated that the elections for gram panchayats will be held as per schedule next year.
