Till now the strong Andhra lobby was trying to keep AP united but now internal caste war has stated among three powerful caste ie Reddy,Kammas and Kappus .Caste in politics has always played a dominant role in distribution of election tickets. It now seems caste will discharge a vital function in the formation of the new capital of Seeema andhra .
Building the new capital with investments over 5 lakh crores The battle-lines are drawn with Reddy,Kamma and Kappu politicians all party lines are trying to outwit each other on the financially lucrative issue of building a new capital.
Real estate around the ‘would be’ New capital is being grabbed and the land prices have already gone up by 200-300% in the last 3 years in anticipation the capital city will be built around these 3 dominated caste districts.
Vijayawada and Guntur are centrally located with reasonable infrastructure for a capital, but leaders from Reddy-dominant districts want either Tirupati or Kurnool from Rayalaseema or even Ongole from Prakasam as the new capital.
Reddys : who account for over 4.5 % of the population, financially and politically very influential and were running AP politics for over 40 years through Congress party and account for 60 Mla from 175 Andhra Mla. Reddy dominate Cuddapah,Nellore and Ongole and they want the new capital near these districts so their domination continues .Reddy domination in industry and business account for over 40 % of GDP of AP.All the top inndustries are either owned by Reddys or Kammas.
Kamma :The late entry into AP politics and solely owes their success in politics to charismatic leader NTR who crushed the ruling party congress in 1983,1996 and dominated over AP politics for over 13 years.Kammas account for 4 % of population and dominates Film industry and software industry.Kammas account for 24 Mlas out of 175 Mlas in Andhra area.Kammas are concentrated in Guntur,Krishna and they are fighting for capital near their dominated districts.
Kappus:One caste owes its existence to Chirenjeevi and accounts for 17-18% of Andhra population but no political say in the last 60 years and now they are flexing their muscles. They dominate the scene in east and west Godavari.Kappus can emerge as the future of Andhra politics because of their sheer numerical strength.
