Kabul, December 16: The International Committee of the Red Cross says it has made visits to some members of the Afghan police held by the Taliban in northwestern Afghanistan.
The Red Cross said on Tuesday that some of its staff members had visited three members of the Afghan security forces detained by the Taliban in Badghis province, AP reported.
The ICRC stated that two visits took place last month.
However, an ICRC spokeswoman declined to comment on the conditions of the three prisoners visited by the agency.
Reto Stocker, the head of the ICRC’s delegation in Kabul, called the visits a breakthrough.
“This is the first time since the beginning of the current conflict that the ICRC has visited people detained by the armed opposition.”
